Design/Build Tank from Secondary Containment Structure

Wood River, Illinois ~

Elite provided design/build services for the construction of a concrete secondary containment structure that encompassed 17 tanks ranging in size from 200,000 to 750,000 gallons.  Elite’s extensive experience in concrete construction was essential in providing a product that exceeded industry standards.  As part of the project, Elite installed state of the art expansion joints between adjoining concert pours that provide the industries most effective seal against hydrocarbon penetration.  Trench drains were constructed to project specifications using the latest in form technology which significantly reduced labor costs.

Preparation for the installation of the containment structure included the excavation and removal of 3,700 cubic yards of contaminated surface soil and earthen berm that surrounded a portion of the tank field.  The project provided a challenge in that the work was being conducted in close proximity to active piping and tanks.  Elite’s attention to detail and hazard awareness was fundamental to completing the job without incident.  The project was deemed a complete success when the structure contained a 30,000 gallon release that occurred shortly after installation.
